The American Board of Trial Advocates is one of the premier organizations for trial lawyers in the United States. Founded in 1957, the purpose of ABOTA was in large measure to certify trial lawyers and foster integrity in the legal system for the benefit of the public. It is also dedicated to preserving the jury trial in the United States. Membership is by invitation only, and open to trial lawyers who possess the requisite number of jury trials and who have demonstrated the highest level of ethics and civility in the profession.
